Back Breaking Sustenance

My food has arrived!

In a glorious mountain of cardboard at my front door were the tools necessary to keep me alive for (no more than) 38 days.

Finding the right ratio of food to weight is hard enough as it is. Throw into that the fact you're carrying your entire trips worth of food with you? Damn near impossible. Shaving off weight inevitably means shaving off calories, and when you're burning upwards of 6,000 calories per day, each calorie really means something.

I've allotted approximately 1.4 lbs per day which ends up being about 2700 calories. A big mac has over 500 calories. So, we are slowly starving ourselves the entire time while walking 20-25 miles per day (eventually, probably about 10-14 to start!).

Less than one and a half pounds per day may not sound like a ton of weight, but I'm carrying 38 days worth; 51 pounds.

Yikes!

Well now, that I've done straining my back lifting this box full of food. It's time to package it up and condense it for backpacking travel!
