Meals, packaged.

Preparing the food has been no small task... but I believe I've found a setup that will work for my 38 day supply stash. It is a massive, heavy heap of sustenance.

Above you will see two days worth of food (one with the breakfast/dinner side up, the other with lunch side up). To keep them as small as possible, I layered the items, creating a little briquette of food, which I then vacuum sealed.

I vacuum sealed the full days worth of food for a few reasons.

  1. Allows rationing to be precise, and unable to accidentally over eat.
  2. Removes as much air as possible, making it as small and compact as possible.
  3. I packaged my breakfast and dinner in ziplock bags, but vacuum sealing will ensure freshness.
  4. Waterproof, and safe to assume fairly smell proof.
  5. Keeps things neat and organized.

Each day averages about 1lb and 9oz. I was trying to keep it to 1.5 lbs, but I decided last minute to add a bit of protein powder to my oatmeal in the mornings for additional nutrients. I've got each day just about 2700 calories; far less than I will actual need, but a good middle compromise for fuel to weight.

To save a bit on money, instead of buying portioned out peanut butter, I made 1.5 oz packets myself. One is for oatmeal in the morning, and the second is for lunch. A messy task... but kinda neat!

Below is a full break down of what I'll be eating... everyday... for over 30 days.

Breakfast: Cinnamon apple oatmeal with peanut butter and Soylent | 723 calories
Lunch: 2x Pemmican/Meal Pack bars, 1.5 oz of peanut butter | 980 calories
Dinner: Idahoan instant mashed potatoes with dried veggies and dehydrated beef and a Bonk Bar | 940

Less than 10 days until we begin our journey!
