Stormy

With more crummy weather on the way, we decided to stick it out another day and relax. A few other hikers were pulled off trail that hadn’t been near around and told stories of terrible conditions and up to 10 inches in some places of fresh, wet snow.

A couple folks also left for a few weeks to come back when snow conditions were better, or go on side trips for a while waiting it out. Some actually left the trail all together.

The plan now is for me to go up the last 42 miles, pass into Colorado, finish up NM, and the first road that’s crossed is a road back into Chama.

My support system at home has graciously been Lauren with all my extra gear. So I gave her the info of where to send some snow gear, and also purchased a bit more. It’ll all arrive on Friday, the day I (hopefully) arrive back into town.

Most folks are getting snow shoes for the section north chama, but with only a few days to Pagosa Springs I’m going to evaluate the snow situation and most likely take one of the alternate routes. I’m not a fan of the slow nature of snow shoeing, and I don’t want to sit around waiting for the snow to melt. There’s a few different alternates, but looking like I’ll do the creed route up north from Pagosa! But only the next few days will really tell.
