It was so cold this morning that my hands and feet were in aching misery as I packed up and ate my cold breakfast. My water bottle had ice in it, too. Eagle Eye was so cold last night that she wanted to go home. Cold was her worst nightmare and now she's living it. I actually enjoyed the hiking once I got going and warmed up and the sun came out. I think it stayed in the thirties all day, and the water that Goat spilled on the porch last night did freeze into a dangerous ice slick. I heard it got in the twenties last night.

I'm in the Gravel Springs Hut in Shenandoah National Park. Eagle Eye set up her tent inside the shelter, and I hung my tent and made a cubby using her tent as a windblock. This three-walled stone shelter really blocks the wind nicely but four walls would be amazing right now.
