I think so few people actually attempt a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail because of the books they read, video's watched, and advice from family prior to leaving. It seems more like a Nature trail to Hell than an amazing journey of epic proportions.

So here are the top 10 things you need to know about the trail based upon the things I have read or heard prior to my trip..

#10  -  It rains every single day on the trail.

I think it must be that when it rains you have more time to write or film because it seems like it rains every single day on the trail.  I have lived in both North Carolina and Pennsylvania and I know for a fact it can't rain every day. But just in case I have added an extra rain suit and an inflatable raft to my pack.
